    Are you a skilled statistician or quantitative ecologist with a passion for applying statistical methods to ecological and environmental data? Proteus is a globally recognised statistical consulting company specialising in ecological and wildlife applications. We work on diverse projects across various species and ecosystems worldwide, and we’re looking for a motivated Biometrician/Ecological Statistician to join our team at Invermay Agricultural Research Centre, near Dunedin, NZ.

    What You’ll Do

    • Conduct robust statistical analysis to provide accurate results for clients
    • Offer expert advice on study design and ecological data analysis
    • Communicate findings effectively through reports, presentations, and direct client engagement
    • Work independently and lead project teams when needed
    • Contribute to the company’s growth and innovation in ecological statistics


    What We’re Looking For

    Essential Skills & Experience:

    • PhD (or equivalent experience) in statistics or quantitative ecology, with at least 5 years post-qualification experience in a consulting-like environment.
    • Strong statistical background in GLM-type analyses, mark-recapture, distance sampling, and/or occupancy modelling
    • Proficiency in R for data analysis and visualisation
    • Solid grasp of sampling theory and its practical application
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to explain complex results to non-specialists
    • Experience with RMarkdown for documentation
    • Self-motivated, client-focused, and eager to learn

    Bonus Skills:

    • Experience leading project teams
    • Experience with Bayesian inference and simulation studies
