ATSIMA (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mathematics Alliance) is an Indigenous led, non-profit organisation incorporated in 2015. The Statistical Society of Australia (SSA) has been a member of ATSIMA since 2021.  In 2023 SSA awarded its first ATSIMA Travel Sponsorship. 

The ATSIMA 2023 conference was held in October. This event was the first mathematics education conference held in a Yolngu Community. It  provided delegates the opportunity to be immersed in a Yolngu Community, in Yolngu Language and Culture and explore the teaching and learning of mathematics that values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

ATSIMA conferences attract a wide range of people from all states and territories, leaders in education from the public and private sector and many other industries Australia wide, engaged in frontline education, in curriculum development, and from Government organisations and industry.

Interested in attending an ATSIMA conference? The SSA is sponsoring the attendance of one member per conference. The Society will cover the delegate's registration fee and travel and accommodation expenses of up to $1,500.
