Small Area Estimation in the Pacific: Current Challenges and Future Directions

We are pleased to announce a workshop on Small Area Estimation in the Pacific: Current Challenges and Future Directions, bringing together researchers, statisticians, practitioners and policymakers to explore the latest developments, applications and opportunities in small area estimation across the Pacific region.

The online workshop will connect participants across four locations:

    Auckland, New Zealand
    Nouméa, New Caledonia
    Canberra, Australia

Small area estimation provides powerful methods for producing reliable estimates for small geographic areas and population groups, particularly where survey data are limited. The workshop will showcase methodological developments and practical applications, while providing an opportunity to discuss how these approaches can support better data, evidence and decision-making across the Pacific.

The programme will bring together expertise from universities, national statistical offices, regional organisations and researchers working across the Pacific, with confirmed and invited speakers including:

    • Lyndon Ang and Mark Ioppolo, Australian Bureau of Statistics
    • Ray Chambers, Australian National University
    • Susanna Cramb, Queensland University of Technology
