PhD Scholarship on Polytope Random Walks

    DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS, UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND

    Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship to work on random walks on polytope, as part of the Marsden funded project ‘Inference for statistical linear inverse problems: theory and practice’. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Professor Martin Hazelton. The scholarship carries a stipend of $27,500 per annum (tax free), and covers fees, thesis expenses and conference travel.

    Skills and experience

    Candidates for this position have a first class Honours degree in Mathematics or Mathematical Statistics. Expertise in at least one of the following areas would be advantageous: Markov processes, algebraic statistics/polynomial ring theory, and integer programming.

    Location

    The successful applicant will conduct their studies at the University of Otago in Dunedin, on New Zealand’s South Island.
