ECSSN and NZSA are proud to present: Adventures in Statistics and Genetics: a brief history of the methods in Animal Breeding presented by Roy Costilla.
Online: 4pm NZT and 2pm AEST.
Although seemly disparate, Statistics and Genetics are two scientific disciplines that grew together from the beginning of the 20th century. From Galton and Fisher to Henderson and Stranden there have always been problems, and most importantly solutions, tackled by scholars in both areas. In this talk, Roy Costilla will introduce some of the historical problems that intersect these sciences. He will also share his own journey in Animal Breeding and his take on what the future could look like.
Bio:
Roy Costilla was born in Peru and grew up between Cuzco's mountains and Lima's ocean. He came to New Zealand more than a decade ago and call it home now. He is a Statistician and Geneticist.
