This is an exciting time to join one of the largest and most vibrant statistics communities in the UK. We currently hold more EPSRC funding than any other UK Statistics group and comprise of 25 academic staff, 18 research associates and over 40 research students spread across research clusters in Bayesian and Computational Statistics, Time Series and Changepoints, Extreme Value Statistics, Statistical Learning, and Medical and Social Statistics. Lancaster is one of the UK’s top departments in Mathematics and Statistics, ranked 5th overall in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and 3rd for the impact of its research.

The Department hosts the EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistics and Operational Research in partnership with industry, STOR-i (www.stor-i.lancs.ac.uk), in collaboration with the Department of Management Science, and is a member of the ESRC North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (http://www.nwssdtp.ac.uk/). The Department is one of the founding partners in Lancaster’s thriving Data Science Institute (www.lancaster.ac.uk/dsi), which has core themes focusing on health, environment and society. These activities build on flourishing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Statistics.

We welcome applications from all diversity groups. The Department provides an environment that aims to meet the individual needs of each member of staff. All new lecturers are provided with mentoring and support from the group as a whole, with a carefully selected group lead taking responsibility for personal development. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies, and seek to promote a healthy work-life balance. The University is a charter member of Athena Swan and has held a Bronze award since 2008, in recognition of good employment practice to address gender equality in higher education and research. The Department achieved its own Athena Swan Bronze award in 2017 and is a registered supporter of the London Mathematical Society’s Good Practice Scheme. We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job-share basis wherever possible and habitually agree to flexible modes of working.

Informal enquiries may be made to the Head of the Statistics Section, Professor David Leslie (d.leslie@lancaster.ac.uk) or the Head of Department, Professor Alexander Belton (a.belton@lancaster.ac.uk).
