SSA Canberra Branch - Dennis Trewin prize

The Dennis Trewin Prize, named after the former Australian Statistician Dennis Trewin AO (picture below), is awarded annually by the Canberra Branch for outstanding research in statistics or data science by an early career statistician or data scientist in the ACT or regional NSW (excluding Sydney-Newcastle-Wollongong).

In the 2021 version of the prize, interested applicants (possibly after an initial shortlisting phase) were invited to submit a recorded 15-20 minute presentation on their research project. An external selection panel including Dennis himself then reviewed the presentations. The winner/s were then invited to present an extended version of their research talk as part of the (usually) October branch meeting, to the wider Canberra Branch. A monetary prize was also awarded to the winner, while all shortlisted candidates received a one year complimentary student/transition membership to the SSA.

If you wish to know more about the prize, please contact ssacanberra 'at' gmail.com for more information.

If you wish to participate in the prize, then please keep an eye out for notifications when the next round opens (if you are current SSA Canberra member), or contact ssacanberra 'at' gmail.com to find out more!
