    Applications are invited for a Masters scholarship to work on statistical modelling of geomagnetic storms, as part of the MBIE-funded project “Solar Tsunamis: Space-Weather Prediction and Risk Mitigation for New Zealand’s Energy Infrastructure”. The project involves model development and data analysis, working with collaborators in NZ and the UK. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Assoc. Professor Ting Wang and Dr Matthew Parry. The 1-year scholarship carries a stipend of $17,000 (tax free), and covers fees, thesis expenses and conference travel.

    Skills and experience
    Candidates for this position should have an Honours or PGDipSci in Statistics; experience in computational statistics is required and knowledge of time series would be advantageous.

    Location and start date
    The successful applicant will conduct their studies at the University of Otago in Dunedin. The preferred start date is February 2023.

    Part-time study:Part-time study is not permitted.
