SSA volunteer Resources Hub

The SSA Volunteer Resources Hub is a central online space designed to support people who volunteer with the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA). It brings together practical guidance, tools and templates to help volunteers plan, deliver and promote SSA activities in a consistent and efficient way.

Whether you are organising a workshop, coordinating a webinar, contributing to an event, or submitting content for SSA communications, the hub provides resources to support your work and simplify the process.

Access to the Volunteer Resources Hub is available via the Members Area

To view these resources, please log in to the SSA Members Area.

What you'll find in the Hub

The resources are intended to support volunteers and can be used as-is or adapted to suit different activities and contexts. This hub provides:

✔ Helpful guidance – Step-by-step resources to assist with planning and promotion, giving you a solid starting point without rigid rules.

✔ Customisable templates – Use SSA’s branding resources as they are or modify them to fit your event’s unique style.

✔ Easy event and content submissions – Simple forms to share event details and news for SSA’s newsletters and communication channels.

✔ A streamlined approach – Save time and effort with resources designed to support - not restrict - your planning process.

Think of the hub as a toolkit: use what you need, adapt what works for you, and draw on SSA support to deliver successful activities.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers are at the heart of the Statistical Society of Australia (SSA).

As a volunteer, you play a vital role in advancing the discipline of statistics, supporting professional standards, fostering collaboration, and strengthening the statistical community across Australia. Through your time, expertise, and commitment, you enable SSA to deliver high-quality professional activities, promote statistical literacy, support members at all career stages, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making in society.

Volunteering with SSA is an opportunity to:

  • Strengthen the statistical profession and its visibility in Australia
  • Contribute to professional standards, education, and public understanding of statistics
  • Support current and future statisticians, including students and early-career professionals
  • Share expertise, build leadership skills, and expand professional networks
  • Play an active role in shaping the future direction of the Society

There are many ways to get involved with SSA, whether through short-term contributions or longer-term leadership roles, including:

  • Serving as volunteer at national or branch level
  • Supporting accreditation, professional recognition, or assessment activities
  • Speaking at or organising SSA events, conferences, or professional development programs
  • Writing, reviewing, or editing SSA publications
  • Mentoring students and early-career members
  • Participating in awards, honours, or recognition panels
  • Supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

Volunteer opportunities are communicated via SSA emails, the website, and branch communications. Some roles involve formal expressions of interest or elections, while others are task-based or short-term. Members interested in volunteering are encouraged to register their interest or contact SSA directly.

Branch, Section and SIG roles

These roles hold honorary positions supporting the governance and strategic direction of SSA. These roles are typically term-based and filled through expressions of interest.
