Health Policy Analysis is looking for a data scientist/statistician to become part of our data science and statistics team.

    Who are we?

Health Policy Analysis is a consulting firm working in health care. We work with governments and private sector organisations in Australia and internationally to:

    • ·        evaluate health care initiatives and programs and
    • ·        develop health service planning tools and funding models.

More information on our work is at: https://www.healthpolicy.com.au/

We are a small group of dedicated professionals who want to make a difference in working with clients to improve health care systems.

Our statisticians and data scientists work alongside our broader team of consultants to help build the evidence base that underpins our work. We often analyse large health service datasets and develop Shiny Apps and other interactive visualisations to present analyses.  Most of our statistical or data science work occurs in R.

    Who are we looking for?

While previous experience working as a data scientist or statistician is preferable, we will happily consider recent graduates or post-graduates with relevant qualifications and a clear potential to grow during their time with us. Regardless of experience, it is important to us that you have a strong desire to challenge yourself to learn and expand your skills.

We expect the successful candidate will have:

    • Sound knowledge of and experience in the R language and relevant packages. As a guide, HPA uses the tidyverse packages for core analysis tasks, the targets package to develop our workflows, and quarto for producing reports.
    • Experience in developing R packages and/or Shiny Apps

Experience with other languages and/or environments is desirable.

    What does the role involve?

The day-to-day role of our data scientists/statisticians involves:

    • Developing programs to perform descriptive, statistical and predictive analysis, within reproducible data analysis workflows.
    • Contributing to HPA consultancy projects which include a data analysis and/or statistical component.
    • Contributing to the development and maintenance of our software applications and packages, including R packages and Shiny apps.
    • Contributing to improvements and innovations in managing and analysing data sets and reporting results.

    What benefits do we offer?

    • A competitive salary that reflects your level of qualifications, skills and experience.
    • A mentor within the organisation and an ongoing development plan.
    • A friendly and supportive working environment.
    • A diverse range of projects.
    • Challenging work that will expand your skill sets and capabilities.
    • An opportunity to develop expertise in analysing key data sets used within the health sector in Australia and other countries.
