QLD branch AGM and talk by Darren Wraithe

Nominations are called for the positions of President, Secretary, Treasurer and members of Branch Council for 2015 in accordance with Rule 12b of the Branch. Nominations should be received, in writing, by the Secretary, on or before Tuesday 10 March 2015. Such nominations shall be signed by at least two members, and shall be accompanied by the candidate’s written statement of willingness to stand. Nomination forms will also be provided at the AGM and you can nominate yourself on the day.

Speaker: Dr Darren Wraithe, QUT

Title: A new family of multivariate heavy-tailed distributions with an application to robust clustering

Biography: Darren Wraith is a Senior Lecturer (Biostatistics) in the School of Public Health and Social Work and member of IHBI, QUT.  Prior to his current appointment (November 2014) he spent 18 months at the University of Melbourne and prior to this, 5 years in France as a post-doctoral research fellow at Universite de Paris-Dauphine, Paris and as a Research Engineer at INRIA, Grenoble. Darren’s main research interests are in latent variable modeling (particularly structural equation models and clustering/classification approaches), Bayesian statistics, and bioinformatics.
