The Statistical Society of Australia and ACEMS are proud to present the following workshop:
Introduction to the Tidyverse
presented by Miles McBain on 13 March 2017 in Brisbane.
About the workshop:
This is the first of a 2 part R workshop series that teaches data wrangling and visualisation from the perspective of tidy data and and the Tidyverse.
You will learn how the tools of the Tidyverse fit together under a common data centric API and philosophy that leads to greater effectiveness and efficiency. Tidy tools deal with many of the common challenges in the modern data workflow including wrangling, visualisation, and modelling. Strong data skills in these areas are essential to any data science project, and the Tidyverse approach will provide a strong foundation for continued learning.
The workshop will begin with the elementary concepts of the Tidyverse including the coding style and the definition of tidy data. From there, data wrangling and shaping skills are built to form a solid base for tidy approaches to visualisation (ggplot2) and modelling. The workshop is highly interactive and aims to teach participants ‘to fish’ by example using key online resources like cheat sheets etc. To learn more about Tidyverse approach to data science, please see https://blog.rstudio.org/2016/09/15/tidyverse-1-0-0/
A small number of sponsored places will be available to promote equality and diversity among the R community. We encourage those who identify as coming from minority groups or experiencing hardship to apply for these. This applies also if you are a student, returning to the workforce, or are experiencing financial hardship. Please contact [email protected] and we will be glad to consider sponsoring your place.
Target Audience: New R users, or current R users interested in learning about the tidyverse approach to R and data science.
Cost (including lunch)
SSA/ACEMS Members $200
Registrations close strictly on 9 March 2017.
Workshop participants are required to bring their own laptop with the following software:
R Studio – https://www.rstudio.com/
Occasionally workshops have to be cancelled due to a lack of subscription. Early registration by as many participants as possible ensures that this will not happen. Please contact the SSA Office before making any travel arrangements to confirm that the workshop will go ahead, because the Society will not be held responsible for any travel or accommodation expenses incurred due to a workshop cancellation.
Cancellations received prior to Tuesday,7 March 2017, will be refunded, minus a $20 administration fee. From this date no part of the registration fee will be refunded. However, registrations are transferable within the same organisation. Please provide a copy of the registration confirmation sent to the original participant to the registration desk on arrival at the workshop.
