FUNDING FOR the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics and Australian Statistical Conference 2018

The Statistical Society of Australia QLD Branch is offering one award to fund the participation of a QLD Young Statistician to attend the Biostatistics Conference on 26–30 August 2018 in Melbourne, Australia. The conference provides a valuable opportunity for statisticians across Australia to meet and hear the latest research developments. The award will contribute towards conference registration, travel (return flights from Queensland to Melbourne) and accommodation expenses. The recipient will be required to provide an article (c. 250 – 500 words) on personal conference highlights within two weeks of the conclusion of the conference for publication in the SSA Newsletter.



The award is open to Queensland residents who are currently undertaking Honours, Masters or PhD studies in statistics or a related discipline. As a condition of the grant, the awarded candidate will need to be accepted to present a talk or a poster at the conference (applications close March 2nd). The award will cover early-bird registration fees and either full or partial funding for travel and accommodation up to a total of $1000. The award will be paid directly to the recipient (unless otherwise requested), and will be based on reimbursement of actual expenses for which receipts are received.



The Award recipient will be selected by the SSA Queensland Branch Council and notified prior to the early-bird registration deadline (31st May 2018). Should no application of sufficient standard be received, the Branch reserves the right to make no award.



E-mail the following to the Queensland Branch Secretary by 5pm Monday 21st May 2018:

  • Personal details: name, email address and phone number and a short paragraph introducing yourself, studies and qualifications and/or career experience.
  • Evidence of enrolment at a Queensland university (e.g., scanned copy of student ID card).
  • Evidence of acceptance of talk or poster (Note: Conference abstract submissions close March 2nd, Author notifications will be sent out 18th May)
  • Abstract of talk or poster.
  • A travel quote and accommodation quote if applying for travel and accommodation funding.


The closing date for applications for the travel grant is 5pm Monday 21st May 2018.
