    Statistical Consultant (508616)

    You’ll build on the statistical capacity of UNSW researchers and research students by advising on or leading study design, analysis and communication of results, developing and running regular professional development workshops and seminars, and building and maintaining strong relationships to facilitate interdisciplinary research.

    Biostatistician (508557)

    As above with a particular focus on supporting researchers in the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct (RHIP).

    The Organisation

    Stats Central is a team of statisticians offering UNSW researchers support and training in study design and analysis, as part of the university’s 2025 Strategy. It is based in the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre in the Division of Research and Enterprise, a centralised unit that manages major research infrastructure at UNSW and provides relevant technical and consulting expertise. Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct is a newly established health precinct that brings together researchers at UNSW, in government, local hospitals, research institutes and preclinical faculties.

    Who you are

    Statistical Consultant

    Level A

    You have a PhD in Applied Statistics or related area, and can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

    • Advanced statistical techniques, and ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on-time results
    • Work effectively as a team member, and the capacity for independent decision-making using initiative
    • Collaborate with researchers from different backgrounds and communicate statistical concepts clearly to non-statisticians
    • Provide effective statistical mentoring to research staff and students
    • Develop statistical methodology or statistical software applications, and able to write code in multiple statistical packages
    • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training

    Level B (in addition to the above)

    • Ability and experience working in a statistical consulting role and reviewing research grants and journal articles
    • Provide independent scientific and statistical leadership, and the capacity to review research proposals critically
    • Effectively instruct applied researchers on statistical techniques in a short course setting and develop materials for short courses
    • A strong inter-disciplinary publication record including publications in statistical methodology journals

    Biostatistician  

    Additionally, you will have experience in bioinformatics and general knowledge of high-throughput technologies used in molecular biology.
