    It's a full-time, 12 month contract but usually would extended at the end of contract. Details are below:

    Full-Time, 12 Month Contract

    At the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), we are committed to achieving innovative, ground-breaking health and medical research that fundamentally improves the quality of life for all people.

    The statistician will provide statistical support to SAHMRI Clinical Research, primarily the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR). This Registry collects data on all arthroplasty procedures undertaken in Australia and collaborates with other national and international registries.

    Reporting to the Lead Senior Statistician, the position will work closely with the project manager, statisticians, data managers and Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) personnel. The role will also interact with external stakeholders including contributors to the AOANJRR and other international Registries. 

    About the Role

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Contribute to the design, development and application of statistical methods and models for the AOANJRR
    • Support the analyses required for regular reporting of hospital, surgeon and prosthesis-specific outcomes
    • Participate in ongoing research projects within the Registry
    • Assist the Registry to respond to external requests (Ad Hoc Reports) for data analysis
    • Statistical analysis of research projects including clinical trials undertaken within the AOANJRR
    • Participate in weekly Registry Working Group International teleconferences and weekly Ad Hoc Report meetings
    • Keep abreast of new statistical methods
    • Participate in special projects to continuously improve processes, tools and systems and ensure that SAHMRI SOPs and other documentation are kept up-to-date and adhered to

    About You

    The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

    • Essential: Relevant honours degree in statistics or biostatistics
    • Desirable: Postgraduate research degree (Master’s or PhD or equivalent) or substantial work experience in a similar role
    • In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in statistical analysis of research data
    • Knowledge of and experience in programming using statistical software programs such as SAS, STATA or R
    • Ability to explain and interpret results of statistical analyses to others
    • Understanding of data management principles for large scale clinical research
    • Ability to build relationships and establish rapport within a small team of researchers
    • Efficient time management skills and willingness to assist AOANJRR to complete work within required timeframes
    • Excellent attention to detail
