A new addition to this year’s Young Statisticians Conference is the video competition. It is designed for the early career researchers who are unable to attend the conference in person on 26-27 September 2017 on the Gold Coast.
Professional pitch delivery is an important component for any researcher. It is more important in modern academia, where competition for grants are steep and scopes are limited. The video competition provides a practice run for student researchers. Moreover, it greatly enables young statisticians to enhance their presentation skills without using mathematical jargons, which will appeal to a larger audiences. This competition is open to representatives of industry and government as well – it is not restricted to academics.
A video competition (three minutes thesis) was arranged in ASC 2016. However, this is the first time YSC added such scheme as part of the conference. There is no registration fee this year, hopefully allowing for a hassle-free entry. Prizes will be awarded to the top videos. The rules and regulations along with the submission process are detailed in the competition poster, which can be downloaded here.
