SSAI Western Australia Branch

(click here for our news and events)

These pages provide information on the Western Australian Branch of the Statistical Society of Australia Inc (SSAI WA Branch).  This is the umbrella group for all statisticians practising in WA and all non-statisticians with an interest in statistics who are based in WA.  The SSAI WA Branch implements within the state the overall objectives of the SSAI nationally.  These are

  • To further the study and application of statistical theory and methods in all branches of learning and enterprise;
  • To be of assistance to members in the practice of their profession.

We endeavour to achieve these objectives through:

  • Professional development activities for members;
  • Fostering the training of young statisticians;
  • Encouraging communication amongst members by the holding of monthly meetings.

We hold monthly meetings, which include seminars by invited speakers who are involved with the practise of statistics either locally, nationally or internationally; details of our meetings are available here and on this year's seminar schedule here.  We also occasional run courses and workshops on a range of statistics topics, click here for more information.

Our Young Statisticians section supports and runs events for WA-based undergraduate and postgraduate students who are studying or have an interest in statistics, and for WA-based statisticians of any age in their first five years of practising statistics.  This includes a scholarship for one or two outstanding WA-based students studying honours in statistics (click here for more information).  The Young Statisticians section also has a representative on Branch Council, provides speakers for the May monthly meeting of the SSAI WA Branch and occasionally runs conferences and social events for its members.

Members of the SSAI WA Branch have the opportunity to participate in branch activities, such as those mentioned above.  They also receive the SSAI's journal (the Australian Journal of Statistics, published four times per year) and the SSAI newsletter (published three times per year).  If you are interested in joining the SSAI, joining our mailing list, or have comments, please click here.  You can also contact members of the Branch Council directly by clicking here, or read our rules and regulations by clicking here.

Visitors are welcome at all regular meetings.  We look forward to welcoming you to our next meeting.
